We’re excited about From the Couch’s big win picking up the Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion Award at the New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards.

Total Healthcare is so proud to be a part of this whānau-first initiative through its partnership with BBM Motivation.

BBM Motivation’s Dave Letele says the award is for the BBM whānau and everyone who believes in their mission to bring hope, health, and whānau-first fitness to communities.

At the awards ceremony Dave thanked the team behind From the Couch and spoke about the importance of supporting community-led initiatives to help people thrive.

From the Couch supports people, predominately Māori and Pasifika, with long-term health conditions to improve their health and wellbeing. BBM Motivation gyms are the access point for services, including medical and wellbeing support, through a partnership with Total Healthcare and Local Doctors.

The awards nomination highlighted the fact that BBM Motivation programmes remove systemic barriers to health and wellness by providing access to resources and support.

The programme is led by staff and mentors who have lived experience and that builds an environment of trust and connection.

Programme participants feel valued and accepted and everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
